Since moving to the beautiful state of California, I find myself in a bikini much more often than ever before. From photoshoots, random sunny Tuesdays on the beach, tank tops year round I've grown a greater appreciation for smooth skin. Shaving doesn't fly. My hair grows back too quickly. I mean...who wants silky skin for just an hour? Sugaring and waxing isn't the greatest either because I have to wait weeks between sessions, thus forcing me to schedule events around my hair removal appointments. No one has time for that. So what about Laser Hair Removal?? Does it really work? Does it hurt? How permanent is it? Well, I'm here to give you all of those answers.
Does it really work? The simple answer is YES!! After my first session I noticed that about 80% of my underarm hair and 50% of my Brazilian DID NOT GROW BACK. Now don't get me wrong. I am not implying that you will see the same results after one treatment. Sessions are scheduled every 6 weeks in order to ensure that the hair can be treated during the follicle's "growing phase" which can occur every 4 to 6 weeks depending on the person. This is necessary to retard growth and destroy the hair. My first session just so happened to line up with the majority of my hair's growth phase which is why I saw great results after one simple session. You must continue your sessions until all unwanted hair has been targeted though. It usually takes anywhere from 4 to 6 sessions spaced out through the year. I started in the winter so that I can be BEACH READY, no razor, by Summer 2018!! It even helps to get rid of the darker hue that some of us ladies deal with under our arms/bikini line. No hair follicles means EVEN complexion!!! Major plus in my opinion!
Does it hurt? Hmm...well I do have a high tolerance for pain so I'm not sure if I can give an accurate review. However, I will explain what it feels like exactly. If you take a small rubber band and snap it onto the areas of choice (HARD) over and over again, while holding a small fan on the area as well, you should get a good idea of the discomfort level for this treatment. For me, underarms were a breeze. The Brazilian was slightly uncomfortable but only when the laser went over the pelvic bone. The treatment lasted an entire 15 minutes and I was out of the door and on my way to finish running errands. I did not experience any negative effects afterwards either. They do suggest that you refrain from sweating for 24 hours after, so as to not interfere with the process.
Is it really permanent? Any laser establishment that tells you that they can guarantee PERMANENT Hair Removal is lying to you. There are a lot of factors that go into determining how successful your treatments are. Consultations are always recommended before beginning these types of treatments. I do know that overactive hormones are a cause for regrowth in some so if there are some baby making plans in the near future, hold off on the treatment until afterwards just to play it safe.
How much does it cost? Just like any other service, you get what you pay for. Don't expect great results from a "less than great" place of business. The sessions can cost anywhere from $200 to $500. There are usually package prices available also that may be more affordable depending on what it entails. If yo are lucky, you may find some great establishments offering yearly discounts or deals.
So yes, I definitely recommend Laser Hair Removal! If you can, start now. It is a process, but well worth it!
